Tajikistan cuts light petroleum product imports 34% in H1
DUSHANBE. July 19. (Interfax) - Tajikistan cut light petroleum product imports 34% year-on-year to 168,890 tonnes in the first half of 2012, the State Statistical Agency under the Tajik president reported.
In monetary terms, imports dropped 18.9% to $196.9 million, accounting for 11.2% of overall imports during January-June of this year.
LLC Gazpromneft-Tajikistan, which is wholly owned by Russia's Gazprom Neft , is responsible for up to 90% of petroleum products imported into Tajikistan.
Tajikistan does not possess its own oil refineries and oil production is insignificant, despite steady growth. In the first six months of 2012, oil production climbed 14.9% in Tajikistan to 14,340 tonnes.
