Putin seeks broader ties with Spain in politics, economy

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Russian-Spanish relations both in politics and economics have been developing successfully, Russia's President Vladimir Putin said.

"Relations between our countries have been developing in a very successful manner. It concerns both the economy and political contacts," Putin said at a meeting with King Juan Carlos I of Spain on Thursday.

The delegation accompanying the Spanish king during his visit to Moscow includes a large group of Spanish business people, "who we will now be able to meet and talk to," the president said.

"I am certain that your visit will offer one more excuse to look at the opportunities we have not yet taken advantage of," Putin said.

As the world economy goes through a difficult period today, such contacts are highly relevant because each project and investment means concrete enterprises, people and new jobs, he said.

Before the meeting, Putin presented the king with a state award recognizing his outstanding achievements in humanitarian affairs.
