Authorities impose African swine fever quarantine in Tver region

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Governor of the Tver region Andrei Shevelev has signed a decree imposing an African swine fever quarantine across the region, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control (Rosselkhoznadzor) said.

By now cases of African swine fever have been registered in nine districts of the Tver region: Maksatikha, Udomlya, Bezhetsk, Kalininsky, Molokovo, Kimry, Lesnoye, Likhoslavl and Rameshki, the agency said. The Tver Region State Veterinary Service and the Rosselkhoznadzor Directorate for the Tver and Pskov Regions are taking steps to prevent and eliminate the disease, the statement said.

No exact period of the quarantine has been set yet. The quarantine will remain in place across the region until a separate decision is made.

The quarantine conditions do not allow bringing in pigs into the Tver region and shipping out of the region any pigs, feed without thermal treatment, products of hunting obtained from wild boars, pig farm products, except for those made at specialized pig farms and organizations which carry out pig slaughter, processing and storing of pig farm products, having Compartments III and IV, provided that at least 5% of each product consignment to be sent out of the Tver region is tested for the African swine fever virus.
