Poaching charges brought in Russia against Chinese captains

VLADIVOSTOK. July 20 (Interfax) - The Federal Security Service's Far East Border Department has initiated a criminal case against the captains of two Chinese fishing schooners, detained in the Sea of Japan on Thursday for illegally catching squids.

"The criminal cases were started on counts of poaching in Russia's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf," the Primorye Border Department has reported.

The two suspects are the captain of the Zhe Tai Yu 8695 schooner, Chinese citizen Zhang Xinqi (accused of squid poaching on July 15) and the captain of the Lu Rong Yu 80117 schooner, Chinese citizen Ju Xiaoming, accused of squid poaching on July 16.
