Russia hopes S-300 non-delivery problem will be settled with Iran soon - Lukashevich

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - Moscow does not think that Iran's decision to sue Russia over the non-delivery of S-300 missile systems will solve this problem, but hopes the issue will be settled soon.

"It is any sovereign country's right to file lawsuits with arbitration courts," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.

Moscow has always thought that it is a wrong method to deal with the situation, he said.

"All motives behind our decision comply with the UN Security Council resolution and Iran has been informed about them. Therefore, I hope commonsense will triumph and we will remove this problem from the bilateral agenda," he said.

Iran earlier filed a lawsuit with the Geneva arbitration court against Russia for its not delivering S-300 missile systems after the UN Security Council passed a sanction resolution. Iran demanded that Moscow pay it $4 billion in damages.
