Over ten forest fires raging in Far East
KHABAROVSK. July 23 (Interfax) - Nineteen forest fires broke out in the Far East over the past day, more than half of them in Yakutia and the Khabarovsk territory, the forest department of the Far Eastern Federal District told Interfax on Monday.
"Fires are raging in six districts of the Far East. There are eight fires in Yakutia, four in the Khabarovsk territory, one in the Amur area, one in Kamchatka, three in Chukotka and two in the Magadan region," it said.
The fires damaged more than 11,000 hectares over the past day. Five forest fires were put out and another eight were confined.
"There are 14 forest fires in the Far East now," the department said.
More than 360 men with approximately 30 fire trucks and eleven aircraft are extinguishing the blaze.
In all, the Far Eastern Federal District has had over 1,900 forest fires on the area exceeding 367,000 hectares since the beginning of this fire-risk season.
