Medvedev visiting Kolomna Engineering Design Bureau

KOLOMNA. July 23 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Kolomna on Monday. He will visit the Engineering Design Bureau and the Bureau's testing range to see military hardware and tank active protection system trials.

The Kolomna bureau marked its 70th anniversary this year. It was focused on mortars and bomb launchers from 1942 to 1956 and switched to missiles then. Nowadays it is a leading designer of man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-tank missile systems and active protection systems of tanks and other hardware.

The bureau put into service the Iskander-M operative and tactical missile system in 2006. It also manufactures Igla and Strela man-portable anti-aircraft launchers. Several years ago the enterprise put into service a unique all-weather self-propelled anti-tank missile weapon, Khrizantema-S. It designed the Strelets launch module for firing rockets from various hardware. It is now working on the Arena tank active protection system, which will guard armor from anti-tank missiles and grenade launchers.
