Lukashenko predicts rise in destabilizing forces' activity ahead of Belarus election

MINSK. July 26 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said he anticipates an upsurge in the activity of forces seeking to destabilize the situation in the country ahead of a parliamentary election in autumn.

"We will hold the next parliamentary elections in autumn. This is the moment when those who fiercely hate our Belarus and do not like how things stand in our country today will step up their activities both inside and outside of the country," Lukashenko said at a Thursday session addressing measures to bring the Belarusian Armed Forces and State Border Guard Committee in line with modern requirements.

"The task facing all those who are present here today is to make sure that citizens are able to express their will in a calm atmosphere and in strict compliance with Belarusian laws," he said.
