Opposition rally in support of Bolotnaya detainees ends in Moscow
MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax) - An opposition rally in support of those detained over the May 6 clashes in Bolotnaya Square has ended Moscow.
The participants passed a resolution demanding the release of the detainees.
The resolution denies that the Bolotnaya incidents were "mass riots", calls for a criminal investigation into the abuse of authority by police, and insists that the detainees had to use their right to self-self.
Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov urged the participants to join a picket in support of the Bolotnaya detainees outside the Investigative Committee's building at 6 p.m. next Thursday.
"It will be either a coordinated picket or another action. Anyway, we will be there," he said.
The rally went calmly.
Organizers claim that over 3,000 people came, but police estimates the turnout at around 800, including 150 bloggers and reporters.
Speakers at the rally demanded the release of the Bolotnaya detainees.
