Makhachkala police starting a raid of militants' hideout

MAKHACHKALA. July 27 (Interfax) - Militants trapped inside a house in Dagestan's capital Makhachkala let all the children held by them go, after which they opened fire on police, a source in the republic's law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

Two members of a terrorist and subversive group active in Makhachkala and three women helping them are hiding inside the house, the source said.

"We know the names of two persons hiding there - they are Dinara Budtayeva, the widow of Makhachkala militant leader Rasul Makasharipov, who was killed in the summer of 2006, and sister of another notorious militant, Vadim Budtayev, killed in the same security operation, as well as Zagra Kazimagomedova, who recruits new militants. Budtayeva earlier served a three-year prison sentence. Kazimagomedova was detained after a police operation. She was injured. The identity of the third woman is being established," he said.
