Moldovan foreign minister to resign this December

CHISINAU. July 27 (Interfax) - Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca will tender his resignation to Prime Minister Vladimir Filat in December, the minister told a press conference when asked whether he will quit if Moldova fails to agree on visa-free travel with the European Union before the end of 2012.

"My resignation makes no difference for Moldovans. For them, it is important to get a visa-free regime with the EU. Besides, whether the visa regime will be canceled depends not only on government agencies but also the parliament and the public," Leanca said.

"Thanks to the constructive dialogue within the parliament and the Alliance for European Integration, Moldova will meet all the requirements for visa-free travel in the very future," he said.

Earlier Leanca said that Moldovans will be able to travel to the EU without visas in 2012, otherwise he would resign.
