Tymoshenko is recovering, further hospital stay unnecessary - Health Minister
KYIV. July 27 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Raisa Bohatyriova believes that the medical rehabilitation of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been successfully completed, the press service of the Party of Regions reports.
She announced this on Friday answering questions from the press about Tymoshenko's condition.
"Today, an international commission composed of German and Ukrainian doctors, on the basis of all available data on the health of patient Tymoshenko and on the basis of the number of procedures that the patient underwent, noted that the rehabilitation process has been successfully completed," Bohatyriova said.
She said that Tymoshenko is very active and holds various different meetings. "And this indicates the patient's health is improving and that her treatment has achieved a positive result," she said.
The minister reminded journalists that six months ago Tymoshenko asked the medical staff of the State Penitentiary Service to allow her to be examined and involve foreign experts in her treatment. "An international commission composed of doctors from the German Charite Clinic and Ukrainian doctors was set up at that time. By the way, the Charite Clinic has a good reputation, so the patient's treatment, diagnosis and rehabilitation should be effective," she said.
The minister said that according to all standards of the treatment of the disease that the former prime minister has, there are no grounds for a long-term stay in the hospital.
"Therefore, when Ukrainian doctors conducted all of the procedures recommended by German doctors, the question arose what further recommendations should be given to the patient. Now, for unknown reasons, German doctors from the Charite Clinic canceled their representative's visit to Tymoshenko. The German doctors have not come to Ukraine and have not examined Tymoshenko for 16 days, communicating with the patient only by phone. That is why it is impossible to adopt a plan for Tymoshenko's further treatment with the German doctors," Bohatyriova said.
She said that Ukrainian doctors stay aside from the politicization of the process of Tymoshenko's treatment trying to professionally continue to fulfill their duties.
