Norilsk Nickel reduces copper production 3% to 178,200 tonnes in H1

MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax) - OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel reduced copper production by 3% to 178,242 tonnes in the first half of 2012, the company said on Monday.

Copper output in the second quarter went up by 2% quarter-on-quarter to 89,786 tonnes.

Norilsk's Russian subdivision turned out 172,283 tonnes of copper in H1 2012, down 2% year-on-year, but in line with the production plan. In Q2 2012, the Polar and Kola divisions produced 87,353 tonnes of copper, up 3% quarter-on-quarter.

Increased copper output at Norilsk's Russian enterprises in Q2 was partially offset by declining production at the company's international assets. Tati Nickel cut copper concentrate output by 3% to 2,400 in Q2 and by 2% to 4,960 tonnes in H1.

Norilsk's share of production by Nkomati soared 56% year-on-year to 2,100 tonnes in H1 and climbed 12% to 1,100 tonnes of copper concentrate in Q2.

This year, the company plans to turn out 364,000-370,000 tonnes of copper, 355,000-360,000 tonnes of which will be produced in Russia and 9,000-10,000 tonnes of which will be produced internationally.
