Putin heads up new presidential sports council
MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree "On the council for development of physical education and sport under the Russian president," the president's press office said on Thursday.
The new body replaces the presidential council for development of physical education and sports, high achievement sports, preparations for and conduct of the 22nd Olympic Winter Games and the 11th Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan in 2013 and the 2018 world football championship.
The decree approves the regulation on the council and its composition.
Putin has been appointed as council chairman. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko and Presidential Aide Yury Trutnev have been appointed as the council's deputy chairmen.
