Head of Ingushetia speaks for mercilessly fighting militants

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov has denied claims that the leadership of his republic is not energetic enough in its efforts to combat terrorism.

"Militants must be fought mercilessly, that's why [Chechen leader] Ramzan Kadyrov has his own methods and I have mine," he said to Interfax commenting on Kadyrov's statement criticizing the leadership of Ingushetia for what he sees as inadequate activity in combating terrorism.

Kadyrov said that he was perplexed to hear Yunus-Bek Yevkurov say that "Chechen security forces did not conduct any special operation on the territory of Ingushetia" and that the death of three militants in the village of Galashki was a result of an accidental explosion. Kadyrov insisted that an operation in Galashki was conducted by a group of operatives formed by the Chechen leadership and the people killed there "were known as especially dangerous criminals."

Meanwhile, Yevkurov the statement as wrong. "It is one thing if such a statement were made, for instance, by the Interior Minister or an assistant to the head of the republic, but it was made by the head of the republic. I expressed my opinion. There was no special operation in Galashki. Only officers of the Ingushetian Interior Ministry carried out their mission. The killed militants had been wanted and we turned them over to the Chechen Republic at its request," he said.

In his opinion, federal agencies are working together in the territories of the two republics and carrying out the same task. "Neither they, nor we have any other task," he said.
