Silicium Kazakhstan launches second furnace able to produce 12,500 tonnes of silicium a year

OMSK. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Metallurgical plant Silicium Kazakhstan has commissioned its second ore-treatment furnace for producing silicium. The furnace's capacity is 12,500 tonnes of production a year, the co-owner in the plant, Omsk-based Titan Group, said in a statement.

The statement said that the first furnace, which has similar capacity, was commissioned at the end of 2010. After the second furnace's launch, the plant now has reached full capacity at 25,000 tonnes of metallurgical-grade silicium.

"The product has already gone through international certification and evaluation. It is included in international classification and has its own rating," the statement said.

The plant's production is exported to Europe where it used in the production of alloy steel, polycrystal and other items.

Silicium Kazakhstan is the only producer of silicium in Kazakhstan. The plant was commissioned in December 2008.
