Prosecutors seek three years in prison for Pussy Riot
MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - A prosecutor in the Moscow Khamovnichesky Court has asked the court to sentence the members of the punk group Pussy Riot to three years in a penal colony.
The state prosecutors believe the hooliganism by Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Mariya Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich driven by hatred and enmity against Orthodox believers was fully proven during the court investigation, an Interfax correspondent has reported.
The prosecutor believes the punishment for Pussy Riot activists should be determined with regard for the danger of their deed and information on the defendants.
"We should take into account that the defendants have committed a grave crime, but we should also take into account the fact that they have young children," the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor believes the apologies the defendants have offered to Orthodox believers do not play any role.
"The defendants believe they have made an ethical mistake. They have asked for forgiveness for the actions, not for the hurt they have inflicted on believers," he said.
