Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant to submit 4th unit for operation in late August
MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - The Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant plans to submit the new, fourth unit to a Rostekhnadzor commission for approval of its industrial operation on August 20.
Comprehensive tests of the new unit, in which it will work at nominal capacity for 15 days before being submitted for the approval of its industrial operation, began on August 5, the plant said in a report.
The Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant completed all tests of the fourth unit at 100% capacity in early August.
Rostekhnadzor will inspect documentation and the object in late August. Industrial operation of the new unit is expected to begin in September.
The Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant is located in the Tver region. It comprises four power units with VVER-1000 reactors, of which each has a capacity of 1,000 megawatt.
The construction of the fourth power unit of the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant began in 2007. Its physical launch took place on October 20, 2011 and its power launch took place on November 24, 2011. The unit is currently at the stage of experimental-industrial operation.
