Kyrgyz president hopes all agreements with Russia will be implemented

BISHKEK. Aug 14 (Interfax) - All of the projects agreed upon by Bishkek and Moscow should be put into practice, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said.

"I am glad that you came and hope that all of the earlier reached agreements will start to be implemented," Atambayev was quoted as saying by his press service at a meeting with a Russian delegation, headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, in Cholpol-Ata, Issyk-Kul region, on Tuesday.

Shuvalov, for his part, said that he had arrived in Kyrgyzstan at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We were instructed to return to Moscow with agreed upon decisions that will form the core of a joint treaty or several joint treaties, which will open a new page in our relations," the first deputy premier said.

Apart from Shuvalov, the Russian delegation to Kyrgyzstan includes Energy Minister Alexander Novak, Federal Customs Service Director Andrei Belyaninov, who also co-chairs the Russian-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission, First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, Deputy Economic Development Minister Leonid Osipov, Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Alexei Rakhmanov, and other officials.

Bishkek and Moscow earlier reached a number of tentative agreements on the implementation of joint projects in the energy sector. For example, Russia is considering the possibility of starting the construction of the Verkhny Naryn and Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plants in Kyrgyzstan. These projects have been valued at several billion U.S. dollars.
