Policemen attacked in Dagestani town, one wounded
MAKHACHKALA. Aug 15 (Interfax) - Policemen in Kizilyurt, Dagestan, came under fire in the early hours of Wednesday, the Dagestani Interior Ministry told Interfax.
Three people threatening the driver of a Lada car with weapons tied him up with scotch tape at the intersection of Vishnevsky Street and Stroitelei Street in Kizilyurt at about 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, forced him to sit in the backseat, seized the car and used it to attack policemen, a ministry spokesperson said.
The attackers fired upon a police patrol at about 2:25 a.m. Wednesday. "One policeman was wounded and taken to the Kizilyurt hospital. The gunmen managed to flee, and the car with the tied-up driver in it was found on the outskirts of the city," he said.
A criminal case on charges of attempt on the life of a law enforcement official and illegal circulation of firearms has been opened, the Investigative Committee department for Dagestan said. Fifteen 7.62-mm and forty-one 5.45-mm cartridge cases were found at the scene. A magazine for a Kalashnikov assault rifle loaded with 30 cartridges was also found in the car.
