Ukraine, Russia must pursue common socioeconomic policy in Sevastopol - Yanukovych
SEVASTOPOL. Aug 15 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych wants to reach an accord with Russia on a common socioeconomic policy for Sevastopol.
"It would probably be fair for Ukraine and Russia to pursue a common socioeconomic policy in this city, including in matters of pay for the fleet personnel," he said at a meeting with Sevastopol officials.
Relations are normal now between the Russian and Ukrainian fleets, which is natural, he said.
"Tell me, do residents of Sevastopol divide people into friends and foes? No they don't, and they will never do. When people ask what Ukrainian sailors' pay should be like, the answer is simple: it must be equal to that of Russian sailors. We have doubled the pay due to our sailors this year. Is this good or not? This is very good, but not enough," the Ukrainian president said.
