Kazakhstan to increase uranium reserves to 2.25 million tonnes by 2020
ASTANA. Aug 15 (Interfax) - By 2020, Kazakhstan's uranium reserves will reach 2.25 million tonnes, the CEO of the national atomic company Kazatomprom Vladimir Shkolnik said on Wednesday.
"By 2020, we aim to increase our uranium reserves by at least 250,000 tonnes from the current two million tonnes," Shkolnik told a press conference in Astana.
Kazatomprom is Kazakhstan's national operator for the production and exports of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel, special equipment, dual-use materials and technology.
Kazatomprom is one of the leading uranium producers in the world.
