Tbilisi denies claims of Russian military hardware movement on border with S. Ossetia
TBILISI. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The Georgian Interior Ministry has denied reports claiming an increase in the Russian Armed Forces' activity near the village of Knolevi, located on the Georgian-South Ossetian border.
"This information is totally wrong. Someone is probably spreading it deliberately. Our border guards have not noticed any intensification of Russian soldiers' activity. There is no reason for panic," ministry spokesperson Salome Makharadze told journalists.
The Maestro television station reported on Thursday, citing Knolevi village residents, that Russian military hardware was moving and gunfire could be heard.
Russian military hardware has been moving along the perimeter of the village from Russia's military base located several kilometers away for a third day in a row, Knolevi residents said.
