Police establish Ingushetia suicide bomber's identity

NAZRAN. Aug 20 (Interfax) - Police in Ingushetia have established the identity of the suicide bomber, who blew himself up at a funeral ceremony for a slain policeman in the village of Sagopshi in the republic's Malgobek district, a spokesman for the republic Interior Ministry told Interfax.

"Updated reports indicate that the suicide bomb attack was carried out by Khamzat Aldiyev, a 34 year-old resident of the Sunzha district, who was on a wanted list as a suspected militant," the spokesman said.

The remains will be put under laboratory tests to confirm then the suicide bomber's identity officially. Preliminary identification was based on photographs and other characteristic details.

The terror attack had been organized by a criminal armed group led by Artur Getagazhev, also on a wanted list on suspicion of involvement in terror attacks in Ingushetia.

Reports said earlier that a bomb was set off in the village of Sagopshi when a funeral ceremony was being held for a slain policeman. The bomb was equivalent to 10 kilograms of TNT, according to experts.

Eight people were killed and 15 others injured in the blast, updated reports indicate. Severely injured victims will be airlifted to Moscow on Monday.
