Russian, Ukrainian defense ministers to discuss cooperation issues

MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov will pay an official visit to Ukraine on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry's press service informed Interfax-AVN.

"Serdyukov will hold talks in Kyiv with Ukrainian Defense Minister Dmytro Salamatin, and then the two defense ministers will chair the fifth meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission's Security Subcommittee," it said.

"The talks will center on military and military-technical cooperation and the use of the NITKA take-off and landing training facility, as well as cooperation in repairing, upgrading and scrapping weapons and ammunition, plus the joint development, production and maintenance of aircraft," the press service said.

"A final protocol will be signed, as well as a protocol amending the intergovernmental agreement on the use of the NITKA facility," it said.

The NITKA training facility, located near Saki, was used by the Russian Navy to train deck aviation pilots. It is a replica of the deck of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.
