Renault and VW restart car assembly at Russian plants after summer holidays

MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - German carmaker Volkswagen (VW), which produces a portion of its cars for the Russian market at a plant in Kaluga, is restarting assembly operations after a three-week summer break, VW's office in Russia told Interfax.

Furthermore, French company Renault will start car production at the Avtoframos Plant in Moscow on Monday after summer holidays, which commenced at the end of July, Renault told Interfax

The Avtoframos Plant reached production capacity of 160,000 cars a year at the end of 2011. The company plans to boost capacity this year by 10% to 175,000 cars.

The plant increased car output by 21% year-on-year to 81,375 units in the first six months of 2012.

OJSC Avtoframos was founded in 1998 by Renault and the Moscow government. The plant now assembles Logan, Sandero, Duster, Fluence, Koleos and Latitude models.

The Volkswagen plant in Kaluga was launched in 2009 and it carried out SKD (semi-knocked down) assembly of 24 models of Skoda, Volkswagen and Audi cars by the fall of 2010. Since September 2010, it has carried out full-cycle assembly of four models (Skoda - Octavia and Fabia, VW - Tiguan and Polo sedan) and SKD assembly of the Volkswagen Touareg and Multivan.

VW's enterprise might assemble 165,000 cars this year.
