Udaltsov's community service sentence replaced by fine
ULYANOVSK/MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - The Leninsky District Court of Ulyanovsk has upheld a magistrates' court's ruling issued to opposition Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov, who was sentenced to 240 hours of community service for beating student Anna Pozdnyakova, an Interfax correspondent reported.
The court, however, replaced Udaltsov's current sentence by a fine of 35,000 rubles.
The opposition activist himself told Interfax that he disagreed with his conviction.
"In any case, it is a guilty verdict. Now I have a criminal record," he said.
"My lawyer and I will lodge another appeal with the city court," Udaltsov said.
Commenting on the fine imposed on him, Udaltsov said that "we will make a decision as soon as we receive a copy of the court's ruling."
