Funding for Russian unity program could resume - Putin

SARANSK. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Funding for the federal targeted program to strengthen the unity of the Russian nation and promote ethnic cultures could resume, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

A proposal to adopt and fund this program was made by Moscow House of Nationalities' Public Council Chairman Vladimir Zorin at the first meeting of the presidential Council for Inter-Ethnic Relations on Friday.

The program was prepared by the Regional Development Ministry and allocated public funding, but later the Finance Ministry decided not to give the money, Zorin said.

"As for the program and its funding, this can be restored, this is not a lot of money," Putin said.

The total sum envisaged for the program did not exceed 500 million rubles, Zorin said.

"Let us go back to it once again and have a look," Putin said.
