Nationalist Dyomushkin to run for Kaliningrad mayor

MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Leader of the Russkiye nationalist movement Dmitry Dyomushkin intends on Tuesday to submit papers to Kaliningrad's election authority to register his candidacy for Kaliningrad mayor.

"I will fly to Kaliningrad as soon as I can. The signatures were collected the day before yesterday. The only thing that remains to be done is to sign the bulletins and submit them personally to the elections commission," Dyomushkin told Interfax on Monday.

He said he intended to do that on August 28.

Earlier, Dyomushkin feared his pre-election campaign might be disrupted because was summoned to testify in a criminal case against him, opened last May, but his fears proved unfounded as his visit to the Investigative Committee had to do with the results of a new test of which he was informed.

Dyomishkin was asked to run for mayor by Kaliningrad nationalists and democrats. An initiative group was formed, which undertook to collect the required signatures in his support.

The election is scheduled for October 14.

The Communist Party and the A Just Russia Party have nominated a single candidate - regional MP Yuri Galanin. Actress and leader of the local branch of the Yabloko party Alexandra Yakovleva is also planning to run.
