Russia ups fish catch 0.8% to 2.8 mln tonnes since beginning of 2012
MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Russian fishermen have caught 2.83 million tonnes of fish since the beginning of the year, which is 0.8% more than they caught in the same period of 2011.
According to the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo), fishers boosted their catch in the Far Eastern Basin by 6,300 tonnes year-on-year to 1.975 million tonnes. Pollock was the main hunt in the area, at 1.226 million tonnes (24,300 tonnes more than in the same period of last year).
In the Northern Basin, the fish catch was down 7,600 tonnes year-on-year to 419,000 tonnes. Cod accounted for 237,700 tonnes of the catch, up 14,600 tonnes over the same period of 2011.
Russian fishers reeled in 29,300 tonnes of fish (up 3,800 tonnes) in the Baltic Sea, 17,700 tonnes of fish (down 2,400 tonnes) in the Azov-Black Sea Basin, and 16,500 tonnes of fish (down 4,300 tonnes) in the Caspian Basin.
In the waters of foreign states, Russian fishermen caught 249,500 tonnes of fish, or 36,300 tonnes more than they caught in the same period of last year. In convention areas and open parts of the World Ocean, the catch declined by 9,400 tonnes to 123,700 tonnes.
