Bakiyev brother extradition request forwarded to Belarusian Foreign Ministry - CIS body
MINSK. Aug 29 (Interfax) - The CIS Executive Committee has received a note from the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, asking for assistance in the extradition of the former Kyrgyz president's younger brother Zhanybek Bakiyev from Belarus to Kyrgyzstan, and forwarded it to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the CIS' Minsk headquarters told Interfax on Wednesday.
"We can formally confirm the receipt of a note from the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry and inform that is has been forwarded to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry," a CIS official said.
On Tuesday, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry asked the CIS Executive Committee to help extradite Bakiyev to his home country.
We continue to assist the efforts to locate and subsequently extradite the former chief of the State Security Guard Service to his home country, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.
"For this purpose, the Foreign Ministry has asked the CIS Executive Committee as a depositary of international agreements to consider the possibility of facilitating the performance of the obligations assumed by Belarus under the Convention on legal assistance and legal relations in civil, family and criminal case and other international agreements signed in Minsk on January 22, 1993," the statement said.
