Dollar, euro post major gains on Thursday

MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax) - The dollar and the euro posted significant gains on the MICEX on Thursday, with the euro and the bi-currency basket reaching their highest values since July, on the backdrop of heightened currency demand on the part of non-resident market participants and amid unfavorable moods on the stock market.

By the end of the day's trade, the dollar stood at 32.58 rubles/$1, up 40.5 kopecks over yesterday's close.

The euro came to 40.74 rubles/EUR1, up 42.5 kopecks.

The bi-currency basket ($0.55 and EUR0.45) soared 41.4 kopecks on Thursday to 36 rubles.

The Central Bank raised the official dollar rate for the fifth day in a row, by 19.22 kopecks to 32.2934 rubles/$1. It raised the official euro rate for Friday by 24.04 kopecks to 40.525 rubles/EUR1.

The dollar averaged up 16.22 kopecks to 32.2917 rubles/$1 in Today deals on the MICEX and 18.81 kopecks to 32.3327 rubles/$1 in Tom deals. Overall trading volume was $6.418 billion, including $1.228 billion today and $5.141 billion Tom.

The euro was up 19.18 kopecks to 40.5176 rubles/EUR1 in Today deals and 21.34 kopecks to 40.5598 rubles/EUR1 in Tom deals in volume of EUR495.2 million, including EUR232.2 million Today and EUR263 million Tom.

The MosPrime rate for overnight loans rose 2 basis points to 5.69% per annum.
