People should make their own choice of Syria's future - Kazakh minister
TEHRAN. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Astana calls on the international community to abide by the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs during the search for a solution to the Syrian conflict, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov said.
"The Syrian people ought to make their own choice of country's future and political transformation processes. We also believe that it is the UN Security Council's prerogative to adopt any decisions on how to maintain peace and security worldwide," Kazykhanov said at the 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran on Friday.
Both the Syrian authorities and the opposition are responsible for the continuing violence in the country, he said.
