Two militants killed in shootout with police in Dagestan - Investigative Committee
MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Two militants were killed in a shootout with the police in the Kizilyurt district of Dagestan, the republican department of the Russian Investigative Committee told Interfax.
A police detail stopped a VAZ 21014 sedan for examination near the village Komsolomskoye at approximately 9:00 p.m., but the driver and his passenger opened gunfire and were killed in the fire exchange.
"The policemen were not hurt. The dead are being identified. Detectives and forensic experts are working on the incident scene," the department said.
The Dagestani Interior Ministry confirmed the report. "Details of the incident are being found out," it said.
Meanwhile, a crater made by a hitherto unidentified explosive device was found in the Nazran district of Ingushetia. Fragments of a body, a pistol and a cell phone were found inside the crater, the police told Interfax on Monday.
The republican police and Russian Interior Ministry servicemen attached to Ingushetia saw the crater of 20 to 80 centimeters in size five meters away from the Caucasus federal route at the road's 578th kilometer at about 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Fragments of a body, a pistol, a cell phone and two nine-millimeter shells were found in the crater.
Judging by tentative findings, the explosion occurred several days ago. Investigation is underway.
