Fire aboard Russian corvette may delay international drill in Baltic Sea
MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Baltic Fleet Soobrazitelny corvette will be unable to take part in the Danex 2012 international naval exercises on September 3-12 because of the Sunday fire, a source in the Russian Navy Staff told Interfax-AVN on Monday.
"The Sunday fire aboard the Soobrazitelny makes it impossible to take part in the Danex 2012 exercises. The exercises may be delayed indefinitely," he said.
The corvette's engine room caught fire when the ship was traversing the Baltic Sea, he said. "The crew put out the fire and none of the crew members was hurt, but some gear went defunct under the effect of water and foam. The corvette was disabled and had to be towed to base," he said.
