Avtotor to start serial production of Hyundai LCVs Sept 5

KALININGRAD. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Kaliningrad-based CJSC Avtotor will begin serial production of Hyundai HD-78 light commercial vehicles on September 5, the company press service told Interfax.

"The official launch of production will be on September 5. Test assembly began at the plant earlier," a press service spokesperson said, not specifying the volume of investment in production nor output capacity.

Avtotor assembles BMWs, Kias, Chevrolets, and Opels at three premises with combined capacity of 170,000 automobiles per year. The company made EUR 4 billion in sales revenues from automotive production in 2011.

This year the company has reached agreement with the Magna group on setting up in Kaliningrad Region an automotive cluster with production capacity of 350,000 vehicles per year. There will be located here plants of current Avtotor partners and others. In all, plans call for the building of 21 new enterprises, of which six will be full-cycle automobile plants and 15 components plants.
