Russian energy consumption up 2.3% in Aug
MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Energy consumption in Russia rose 2.3% year-on-year to 76.6 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in August, OJSC UES Systems Operator (SO UES) said in a statement.
In January-August 2012, Russian energy consumption increased by 1.7% to 677.2 billion kWh.
Consumption in the United Energy System (UES) (does not include isolated energy systems) totaled 75.2 billion kWh in August, up 2.2% year-on-year.
Russia generated 77.7 billion kWh of electricity in August, 1.5% more than in the same month of last year. UES power generation also rose 1.5%, to 76.3 billion kWh.
Combined heat and power plants (CHPP) bore the main burden for demand for power in the UES in August, generating 45.9 billion kWh of electricity (up 5.6%). Hydro-electric power plants (HPP) turned out 13.2 billion kWh of electricity (down 0.6%), nuclear power plants (NPP) produced 13.3 billion kWh (down 8.6%), and industrial enterprises' power plants generated 3.8 billion kWh (down 0.1%).
Since the beginning of this year, UES power consumption has totaled 663.1 billion kWh - a 1.7% increase over the same period of 2011.
Russia generated 687.7 billion kWh of electricity overall in January-August, 1.4% more than in the same period of last year. UES power generation also rose 1.4%, to 673.6 billion kWh.
CHPP bore the main burden for demand for power in the UES over the eight months, generating 420.4 billion kWh of electricity (up 1.2%). HPP turned out 102 billion kWh of electricity (down 4.2%), NPP produced 117.5 billion kWh (up 6.3%), and industrial enterprises' power plants generated 33.8 billion kWh (up 5.5%).
