Nazarbayev: Economic crisis fraught with new terrorist threats

ASTANA. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev believes a new wave of the global economic crisis could lead to the emergence of new terrorist threats.

"The new arrangement involves challenges to the internal security of each country. All this in many countries could lead to social tensions, instigations and disturbances, interethnic and religious conflicts, and threats on the part of terrorist organizations," Nazarbayev said in a lecture for students and the faculty of Nazarbayev University in Astana on Wednesday.

"Our job is to reduce these risks as much as we can," he said.

"The global financial and economic crisis, which has become the greatest in the planet's history, has not yet been overcome, and you know this. This crisis is continuing to greatly affect all countries, including Kazakhstan. The planet expects the second wave of this crisis. I hope for some reason that this won't reach the scope that was before," he said.
