Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan could open route to EU for Pacific businesses - Putin
RUSSKY ISLAND,. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Russia, jointly with Belarus and Kazakhstan, is ready to make its geographical infrastructure capabilities available to link businesses in Asia and the Pacific to Europe, and to equip transportation hubs and corridors with GLONASS systems.
"Among the unconditional priorities is that of further developing the Asia-Pacific region's transportation footprint. We, jointly with our partners in the Common Economic Space, are ready to make Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan's geographical infrastructure capabilities available," President Vladimir Putin told the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum's business summit.
The Common Economic Space "is not fettered by internal customs or other formalities and is opening a direct way for the Pacific businesses not only towards our economies, but in terms of infrastructure and transportation, provide the optimal way of interacting with the European Union," he said.
Modern know-how, including space-related, should be used more actively in order to make the logistics chains more effective and reliable, he said. "Russia has much to offer here. For instance, transport hubs and corridors could be equipped with GLONASS navigation systems," Putin said.
