No cancellation of zero tax rates for growers - Medvedev

PENZA. Sept 12 (Interfax) - The zero tax rate introduced under a state support program for agricultural producers will not be done away with, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said.

During a meeting with regional United Russia activists in Penza, the prime minister said that during the budget process some government colleagues "proposed chipping away at these beneficial zero rates." "I said, no. It is not acceptable, otherwise we will put agriculture in a very difficult position," he said.

Even the most developed countries maintain a significant amount of support for the agrarian sector, Medvedev said, because this business depends on a whole range of factors.

"We will need to understand this not only now, but also in the coming years. We will not abandon the towns, it is your and our obligation. I ask all members of the United Russia part to understand this," he said.
