Tenex to supply over half of enriched uranium for first UAE power plant

LONDON. Sept 13 (Interfax) - Russia's Techsnabexport (Tenex) will supply more than half the enriched uranium product for the first nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates, Kirill Komarov, deputy head of Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom, told reporters.

"We are very proud of that Techsnabexport has received over 50% of the enriched uranium product volume together with our rivals," he said.

Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) said recently it had signed contracts worth a total of $3 billion with six companies, including the Rosatom-controlled companies Tenex and Uranium One, which will supply the natural uranium, to keep the UAE's first plant stocked with fuel for 15 years from the launch of the first reactor in 2017. The plant will have four generating units with overall capacity of 1,400 MW.
