Shells hit Buinaksk school premises due to commander's error - probe

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - It has been established in a pre-investigation check that shells hit the premises of a boarding school in Buinaksk on September 13 due to a military commander's error, the Russian Investigative Committee's Main Military Investigation Department has said.

"At 5 a.m. on September 13, a mortar platoon commander wrongly chose the direction of the fire, which led to a 800-meter fire error. As a result three 12-millimeter mortar mines hit the premises of a boarding school in Buinaksk," it said in a statement received by Interfax-AVN on Friday.

The incident occurred during a counter-terror operation underway in Buinaksk since September 5. Servicemen of Unit 63354 were involved in the operation, the statement says.
