Gudkov may be prosecuted - Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The decision on whether Gennady Gudkov, who lost his parliamentary mandate on Friday, will be prosecuted will be made after the pre-investigation check is over, said Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin.

He said a procedural inquiry into Gudkov's illegal entrepreneurship is expected to be completed before the end of September.

"The final decision will depend on its outcome. If sufficient reasons emerge a criminal case may be opened," Markin said.

Markin also said that, "the Investigative Committee no longer needs to secure the State Duma's go-ahead, as Gudkov ceased to be a parliamentary deputy from Friday, September 14. Gudkov is not a deputy and he is no longer immune from criminal prosecution," Markin said.

"Again, if a criminal case is started it will be investigated in a routine procedure," he said.
