Ukrainian PM accuses Europe of lack of clear policy toward his country

YALTA. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has accused Europe of a lack of a clear policy toward his country.

Asked during debates at the 9th Yalta Annual Meeting on Saturday how the Ukrainian government coordinates its activity with the European policy, Azarov responded with a counter-question: "Does any European policy really exist?"

Unlike Europe, Russia is pursuing a clear-cut policy toward Ukraine, which is based in words on sharing Kyiv's aspirations for equality, neighborliness and cooperation, but in reality the Ukrainian economy "has been strangled by high gas prices" over the past 2.5 years.

Because of a gas agreement with Russia signed by the previous government, Ukraine's annual extra costs reach $5 billion, Azarov said.

Some politicians who offer advice to Ukraine from time to time in fact do not have a clear action plan, unlike the Ukrainian government, Azarov said.

"Naturally, Ukraine is going its own way, and some don't like it," Azarov said.
