Large batch of cocaine seized in Moscow
MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Customs officers in cooperation with police and the Federal Security Service (FSB) have seized three and a half kilograms of cocaine from suspected drug traffickers in Moscow, a spokesman for the Federal Customs Service told Interfax on Monday.
"A set of measures aimed at curbing a drug trafficking channel from Latin America to Russia was launched on September 7-10. As a result, a large batch of high-quality cocaine weighing about 3.5 kg has been seized," the spokesman said.
Drug traffickers, both men and women, all of then Peruvian nationals, who arrived by a Havana-Moscow flight, have been detained.
Suspected recipients of the drugs have also been identified.
"A meeting with them was arranged at a crowded location. Consequently, two citizens of Lithuania were detained as the cocaine was being handed over to them. They pleaded guilty during the subsequent interrogation," the spokesman said.
