State Duma to have Media Committee
MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - The State Duma will form the Media Committee next week, Speaker Sergei Naryshkin told reporters on Monday.
"I ordered the drafting of documents at today's meeting of the Council to prepare the formation of a new State Duma committee, the Media Committee," he said.
Naryshkin said he would hold consultations with the leaders of parliament factions to agree on the committee makeup and administration.
Once the formalities are over, the committee will start working within several weeks, he said.
"This is a necessary decision - the public pays much attention to the media and media laws, and new media technologies are appearing, such as digital and public television," Naryshkin said.
He expects the State Duma to support his proposal to form the Media Committee.
