UN observers may return to Syria - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Moscow does not rule out the possibility of the UN observer mission returning to Syria.

"UN observers may resume their work in Syria," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Monday.

It was a very important format from the point of view of international monitoring of the situation in that country, he said.

Russia hopes that the new UN and Arab League special representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi will remain committed to the principles of his predecessor Kofi Annan and is ready to work with him, Gatilov said.
