Kazakhstan, Russia should promote regional clusters - Nazarbayev

PAVLODAR. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan and Russia want to deepen industrial cooperation, said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"We are switching to a new level of relations and weighing plans to deepen industrial cooperation as members of the Customs Union," he told the 9th Kazakh-Russian inter-regional cooperation forum in Pavlodar on Wednesday.

"We need to form regional clusters and one of such projects is the construction of a car assembly line, being implemented in the Eastern Kazakhstan Region. It is a large-scale project. We are changing over now to the 'green economy' principle and Kazakhstan is promoting the environmentally friendly industry initiative. We could combine efforts in this area," the Kazakh president said.

Nazarbayev also said that Russia and Kazakhstan should cooperate in science and technology. "Engineers must be trained to operate new production facilities. We are interested in training and retraining personnel and are open for cooperation with Russian universities in this sphere. We invite you to take part in projects being promoted in Almaty and Kurchatovsk, and would welcome cooperation between Skolkovo and the new university in Astana," Nazarbayev said.
