Moscow says thinking up more ways to defend Russian visitors abroad

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - Russia's Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that it plans to set up additional mechanisms for the defense of Russian nationals abroad.

"There will be some structural additions to our work to build security and ensure emergency reactions," ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told a briefing in Moscow. Moreover, the ministry "is dealing with various tasks to ensure reliable protection for our institutions, consular and diplomatic, if necessary with the involvement of special groups that would come from Russia," he said.

He advised Russians who are in a foreign country to maintain contact with Russian missions in that country.

"These days this is much easier to do because many phones show the contact details of our missions abroad, with which one can discuss various matters, and they are always available for assistance and support," he said.
