Russian army to have new tanks - defense minister

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia. Sept 22 (Interfax) - Russian designers are involved in "serious" work developing a new tank, T-90, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said, dismissing speculation that Russia was considering buying tanks from Germany.

"We'll have our own tank, there wouldn't be any German tank. More than that, there is serious research and development work underway at the moment, and, as far as I can understand, we are due to have a trial prototype after 2012," Serdyukov said in a program on Russia's Rossiya 1 television that was first shown in Russia's Far East.
